I have experienced the General Motors Super Cruise for the first time recently after driving the 2022 Cadillac Escalade and let me tell you, this technology is absolutely incredible. The most similar autonomous driving system doesn’t allow you to remove your hand from the steering wheels for more than a couple of seconds, whereas the SuperCruise is a total hand-free autonomous driving system. I won’t lie to you, I was a little bit skeptical about the true efficiency of this system before using it, but only God knows how wrong I was. The first couple of minutes were a bit sketchy and scary too, but it didn’t take long before I was totally comfortable with Cadillac Super Cruise.

By 2023, General Motors decided to expand the Super Cruise availability to more models starting with two other giant SUVs that already share a lot with the Cadillac Escalade. Of course, we are talking about the Chevrolet Tahoe and the Chevrolet Suburban. This is great news, but my only concern about this is will General Motors is able to provide enough models for the demands. The chip shortage situation is not over yet, and this is a huge part of the whole Super Cruise story. Right now, the only thing we know for sure is it says ‘‘ late availability ’’ next to the Super Cruise option.

The Super Cruise system is expected to be found only on the upper trim for the Tahoe and the Suburban. However, as soon as the chip shortage situation is resolved, we can expect the system to be available on ways more versions and, of course, a lot more models in the General Motors family.

More to Come

The Super Cruise itself is a brilliant system, and it will become even more capable with time. The system will be able to work even when you are towing something soon, which will be a game-changer for trucks and big SUV owners.

The Super Cruise has first introduced on the Cadillac CT6 and is now available on various models such as the Escalade.

There are five levels of autonomous driving, and the Super Cruise is considered a level 2 technology. However, General Motors is working on an all-new system called the Ultra Cruise which will be considered a level 3 autonomous system. The first model to get this new system will be the upcoming Cadillac Celestiq.
