2023 Mazda MX-5, what’s new?

Mazda just revealed pricing and packaging for the 2023 MX-5. Although the Japanese compact sports car is mostly unchanged, there are some exciting additions to its lineup for 2023. However, 2023 MX-5 remains one of the most affordable convertibles on the market, and this is what matters the most, in my opinion.
- The 2023 Mazda MX-5 gets a new elegant paint called Zircon Sand.
- Mazda has improved the Kinematic Posture Control technology, which gives the Mazda MX-5 better stability.
- The 2023 Mazda MX-5 starting price is $33,900.
The MX-5 is such an icon and offers one of the best driving experiences in the automobile industry. No wonder it is still one of the best-selling compact sports cars in the world today. The MX-5 success resides in its balance between weight and power. Even in 2023, the Japanese compact sports car is just shy of being under a ton with 1066 kg, making it lighter than most tourism vehicles currently available.
It also means the MX-5 doesn’t need a ton of power to be fun to drive. There is only one powertrain offered here, and don’t let yourself get distracted by the numbers. The MX-5 is powered by a Skyactiv-G 2.0-liter four-cylinder making a whooping 181 hp and 151 lb-ft of torque. This may not sound like a lot, but it is more than enough for the MX-5 to reach the 100 km/h mark in less than 6.4 seconds. This number isn’t significant either, but the true power of the MX-5 balance is the agility with which it can take any curves. Of course, the Japanese compact sports car doesn’t shine in a straight line, but it can give a run for its money to many sports cars on a racetrack.
The 2023 Mazda MX-5 is available with a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic gearbox. The power is sent to the rear wheels in both cases.
Starting at $33,900
The starting price of the 2023 Mazda MX-5 is competitive, although it doesn’t include the transport fee, which is $1,895. The 2023 MX-5 is available in 6 different configurations for the soft-top version and seven different configurations for the RF version. GS and GS-P versions are only available with a manual gearbox. The most expensive version is the MX-5 RF GT with Grand Sport Groupe with a starting price of $47,600$. The most expensive color is the Soul Red Crystal Metallic at $450, and the brand-new paint Zircon Sand Metallic costs $250.
The RF GT Gran Sport Package promises to be one of the most exciting versions of the MX-5 with 17-inch BBS forged wheels and Brembo front brakes. The GT Exclusive Package will be luxurious with Terracotta Nappa leather seats and a black top.
The 2023 Mazda MX-5 should arrive in the dealers at any time now. I can’t wait to see one example wearing the new Zircon Sand Metallic paint.
