Electric cars are expensive to produce, and manufacturers are often forced to make compromises to offer a decent product at a competitive price. Fortunately, things are different with luxury cars, as they are already more expensive, eliminating the notion of compromise. What matters here is providing the customer with the best possible experience, and Mercedes-Benz has understood this well with its range of electric cars.

The German manufacturer's electric sedan hasn't changed much since its introduction. However, it benefits from a considerable improvement for 2024: the addition of a heat pump system that recovers heat from the battery that would normally be lost.

Range and Price

The starting price of the Mercedes-Benz EQE is $85,600 for the 350 4MATIC version. Of course, this is just a starting price. As is the case with most prestige brands, Mercedes-Benz operates with an options package system, which can significantly increase the price. The next level is the EQE 500 4MATIC, starting at $95,000. Finally, you can opt for the ultimate AMG version, but its starting price exceeds $121,500. Moreover, it’s easy to increase the bill by tens of thousands of dollars if you get carried away with the options.

Category and Competition

The EQE sedan was one of the first electric cars marketed by Mercedes-Benz, and this is a good thing since the mid-size sedan segment is particularly popular. It has very few serious rivals, making it one of the best options available in terms of luxury electric cars. Of course, everything depends on your budget, as you can always go for the ultra-luxurious EQS sedan, but the Mercedes-Benz EQE is much more affordable and offers a truly interesting experience.

Rivals: BMW i4, Hyundai Ioniq 6, Polestar 2, Tesla Model 3

Design and Technology

The Mercedes-Benz EQE sedan is an elegant and modern car, there is no doubt about that. However, I feel it lacks a little something unique. It feels like it comes out of a mold. Anyway, it's a matter of taste since some people prefer a car with a more anonymous silhouette. Fortunately, the German manufacturer offers several options to customize their car.

The interior of the EQE sedan is simply sumptuous. There’s no doubt you’re in a top-of-the-line luxury car at first glance. Again, you can enhance the style with various configurations and individual options. Mercedes-Benz has really gone all out here. The technological experience is also very interesting with one of the most beautiful instrument panels in the industry. Even though there are many elements, Mercedes-Benz’s multimedia system remains one of the easiest to use in the industry.

The 2024 Mercedes-Benz EQE offers three powertrain options. The first combination, called 350 4MATIC, features a battery block with a capacity of 90.6 kWh, storing enough energy for the sedan to offer a range of about 418 kilometers on a full charge. This battery powers electric motors with a combined output of 288 horsepower and 564 pound-feet of torque. All-wheel drive is standard on all EQE sedan versions. Next is the 500 4MATIC version, which essentially offers the same battery block and range as the first. However, the power is slightly increased to 402 horsepower and 633 pound-feet of torque, allowing the car to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in less than 4.7 seconds. The best part is that there’s an even better option. The AMG version sits at the top of the range with a power output of 617 horsepower and 701 pound-feet of torque. Additionally, there’s a special mode (Beast) that boosts power to 677 horsepower and 738 pound-feet of torque for a few seconds, allowing the car to go from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.3 seconds. The only downside is its range, which is limited to 362 kilometers.

Weak Points

The price increases quickly from one version to another and especially with options. It could offer better range.

Strong Points

It is an elegant and modern car that lacks nothing in terms of equipment and technology. Its interior is high-end and refined. As if that weren’t enough, it offers breathtaking performance.

Signature Element

I sincerely believe that the Mercedes-Benz EQE sedan is the electric luxury car that gives you the most for your money.

Final Word

Automobiles are a matter of taste, and tastes are not to be argued about. This is partly true since there are tons of parameters that can be compared between each car. There’s also the overall experience a car offers, and that’s where the job of an automotive journalist becomes interesting. In photos and on paper, the Mercedes-Benz EQE is not particularly special. However, I promise you that it’s the kind of car that will make you feel like the president of a major company when you get behind the wheel.
