Audi TTRS: Goodbye USA

Audi TTRS: Goodbye USA

Audi TTRS 2022

Today is a very sad day, especially if you're an Audi fan. That's right, and if you read the title, you already know the Audi TTRS is leaving North America after 2022. Not only is the TTRS a fun little car to drive, but it's also a huge part of the German manufacturer's history.

However, there's still a chance for you to own this top trim of the Audi TT for the 2022 model, which is going to be available in a special heritage edition. The only issue is there will be only 50 cars available which make 10 per color. If you counted right, you now know that there are five different colors for the heritage edition. Alpine White, Helios Blue metallic, Stone Gray Metallic, Tizian Red metallic, and Malachite Green metallic are the colors available. Luckily, there is no limited production for the regular TTRS version for 2022.

What makes the Audi TTRS so special starts under the hood with a 2.5-liter 5-cylinder engine? Let me tell you, this engine is quite unique with a very particular sound and the way it delivers power is simply delightful. Also, it gets plenty of power with 394 horsepower and 354 foot-pounds of torque which made the Audi TTRS good for 0 to 60 mph in only 3.6 seconds. This is less than a second slower than the R8V10 plus, which is considered one of the fastest cars Audis ever made.

Just in case you didn't clearly understand the situation, the Audi TT itself will still be available hen Canada and the United States for 2023. It's only the TTRS version that is affected and no longer going to be available.

RS3 a Valuable Option

If you really love the engine of the Audi TTRS, there might be an option for you in Audi's family. In case you didn't know, the Audi RS3 shared the same engine as the TTRS. It's not a coupe, but it looks pretty good even though it's a sedan.

A History Lesson

The Audi TT was first introduced in 1998 as a totally new sports car for Audi's lineup. Even though it was a fairly basic car, and it wasn't that powerful, the car was able to reach 100 kilometers an hour in 6.2 seconds only, and its top speed was 253 kilometers an hour which were pretty good back then.

It's only almost ten years later that the first TTRS came in 2009. back then, it was equipped with the same turbocharged 2.5 liters five cylinders you found the modern version of it. However, it was a bit less powerful, with only 340 horsepower. Still, the car was able to reach 100 kilometers an hour and only 4.6 seconds. Finally, the current TTRS came on the market in 2016 with the current Audi TT generation. You don't need to be that good with math to understand that the car has been on the market for almost eight years now, which is a very long time in the automobile industry. This basically means that the Audi TT is at the end of the road right now, and the fact that the brand just removed the TTRS version explains everything. At the end of the day, I don't think it's such a bad thing because Audi is probably going to introduce the new TTRS with the next generation that should come out pretty soon. The only issue perhaps is the fact that Audi announced that they were not going to build new engines from now on, and with this, I think that the TTRS is going to either be all-electric or be replaced by an e-Tron electric version. Anyways we're going to have to wait a couple of years to see it.
