Luxury, performance, technology—these are elements that define the majority of prestigious models today. Hence, it's necessary to go further and offer more to stand out from the crowd, as is the case with the BMW X4. It represents the best that the brand has to offer, yet it also sets a standard for the rest of the industry. It's a vehicle that approaches perfection, nothing less.

There are no major novelties on the menu for the 2024 BMW X4, but the Bavarian manufacturer's SUV still receives some improvements here and there. This isn't an issue as the model remains at the peak of its performance.

Range and Price

The BMW X4 starts at a price of $63,652, slightly higher than its competitors. Nevertheless, the Bavarian manufacturer's SUV offers a more comprehensive standard equipment package. This ensures that one never feels like they're driving a base model, which is one of the brand's greatest strengths. The choice of mechanics significantly impacts the price at BMW, and you'll notice that the bill climbs rapidly from one model to another. For instance, the M40i version costs $78,752, even before exploring the options list. Taking a leap further, the X4 M Competition starts at $102,342.

Category and Competition

The BMW X4 operates within one of the most competitive categories in the industry, whether in the luxury vehicle segment or not. Compact luxury SUVs must offer a lot to attract buyers in this demanding segment. Variety is the key to success here. Normally, I'd tell you that this segment features some of the biggest names in the industry, but in this specific case, the BMW X4 is one of those big names. The model is a true reference in its category.

Competitors: Acura RDX, Alfa Romeo Stelvio, Audi Q5, Buick Envision, Cadillac XT5, Genesis GV70, Infiniti QX50, Infiniti QX55, Jaguar F-Pace, JLR Discovery Sport, Range Rover Evoque, Range Rover Velar, Lexus NX, Lincoln Corsair, Maserati Grecale, Mercedes-Benz GLC, Porsche Macan, Volvo XC60

Design and Technologies

Cars have lost popularity in recent years, that's a fact. Nevertheless, not everyone necessarily likes the appearance of a typical SUV, and that's where the X4 truly makes sense. The Bavarian manufacturer's SUV offers a design akin to a sports car with its dynamic silhouette and sporty coupe-like appearance. Its proportions and BMW's signature design elements make it a particularly attractive vehicle.

The interior of the BMW X4 is modern and elegant. There are several finishing options to choose from. The quality of materials is excellent, and the ambient lighting adds a touch of finesse that's rarely found elsewhere. I especially like the X4's dashboard, which has a style quite distinct from SUVs of other brands. The multimedia system of the Bavarian SUV is also very user-friendly.

Performances

The BMW X4 offers three mechanical options, starting with a turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine. This base model generates 248 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. Next is the M40i version, which presents a turbocharged 3.0-liter 6-cylinder engine, delivering 382 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque, notably impressive. Finally, the M Competition version stands atop the category, also equipped with a turbocharged 3.0-liter 6-cylinder engine. This engine boasts a remarkable 503 horsepower and 479 pound-feet of torque, not to mention the various other technical improvements this version enjoys. The BMW X4 M Competition can accelerate from 0 to 100 in less than 3.9 seconds and reach a top speed of 285 km/h, remarkably swift for an SUV. In fact, this variant of the BMW X4 can outpace numerous so-called sports cars, which is what makes it so impressive.

Weaknesses

Comfort can be challenging to find in some versions. Cargo space is limited due to the body's streamlined design. Visibility is somewhat restricted from certain angles.

Strengths

The BMW X4 excels in impressing at all levels. Its design never fails to turn heads. The interior is modern and functional. I particularly appreciate its multimedia system, which is user-friendly and provides smooth navigation. The M Competition version offers breathtaking performance.

Signature Element

BMW was one of the first manufacturers to introduce coupe-style SUVs, notably with the X6. However, I believe this characteristic suits the X4 even better, setting an example in nearly every aspect.

Closing Remarks

BMW offers one of the most extensive and diverse SUV ranges in the market. In short, it's not always easy to choose. Nevertheless, there's a perfect balance in all of this, and that happens to be the X4. The model offers an ideal equilibrium. In my opinion, it's the vehicle that best meets the needs and whims of the majority of buyers, especially within the realm of luxury and prestigious vehicles.
