GMC Hummer 2023: Increased Range

General Motors has decided to add a new version to its 100% electric truck lineup for 2023, and this one has a greater range than the Hummer EV Edition 1.

The GMC Hummer EV lineup is finally expanding with the addition of the 3X version, which will be available for both the 2023 truck model year and the 2024 SUV model year. Two packages will be available to accompany them. You will have the choice between a version with increased off-road capabilities and a more elegant version with 22-inch wheels.

There are no significant changes mechanically. Therefore, the truck will still offer a power output of 1,000 horsepower and 11,500 pound-feet of torque, regardless of the chosen version. As for the SUV, it will have 830 horsepower and 11,500 pound-feet of torque. In both cases, there is a configuration with three electric motors, resulting in lightning-fast acceleration. The truck can go from 0 to 100 km/h in less than 3 seconds, while the SUV takes 3.3 seconds, which is simply astonishing.

Increased Range

Where it gets interesting is in terms of range. With the 22-inch wheels, the GMC Hummer EV 3X will be able to travel nearly 571 kilometers on a full charge, which is about 42 kilometers more than the Edition 1. However, there is no change for the SUV since it already had 22-inch wheels with the Edition 1. Its maximum range remains at 505 kilometers.

Regarding the pickup truck version, this increase in range is mainly due to the use of 22-inch wheels and 35-inch all-terrain tires. Versions with lower range are equipped with 18-inch wheels mounted on 35-inch tires. It is highly possible that the weight of the tires alone could have such a significant impact on energy consumption.

Range is not the only capacity that improves with the GMC Hummer EV 3X, as it also offers a higher towing capacity of 8,500 pounds, which is 1,000 pounds more than the other versions. Once again, it's not a monumental difference, but it provides a bit more flexibility for truck owners.

An Impressive Truck

Unfortunately, the availability of the model in Canada is not yet known since General Motors hasn't mentioned much about it. However, the American manufacturer had announced its arrival in the Canadian market for 2023. For now, the manufacturer's website mentions a range of over 560 kilometers for the truck, which leads us to believe that we may also have the 3X version for the 2023 model year. In any case, the GMC Hummer EV is an impressive vehicle, and its popularity is growing day by day.
