The Toyota Corolla almost dethroned the Honda Civic and sales in 2021

Depending on where you live in the world, Honda and Toyota are certainly among the most popular brand in your country. The two Japanese manufacturers are constantly fighting for the title of the best-selling vehicle in each category. Here in Canada, the best-selling vehicle is, in fact, the Ford F-150. Yes, it is like that here and perhaps in the United States of America. However, you find several Honda and Toyota models among Canada's top 10 best-selling vehicles.

Don't expect to find any Toyota or Honda pickup truck in this top 10. Nevertheless, the Toyota Rav4 came in the third position with 61,934 units in 2021 for Canada, which is an imposing number. If you want my opinion, the hybrid and plug it, hybrid versions combined with the recent introduction of the new generation contributed a lot in the Toyota Rav4 sales rising. Its direct competitor, the Honda CR-V, came in 6th place with 50,935 units.

The Corolla and the Civic

It's no secret that SUVs are getting more popular each year, which reflects a lot into car sales. Many car manufacturers just decided to abandon their sedans or compact cars because of the lack of interest from customers. However, this isn't the case for every manufacturer since Toyota and Honda are still very strong in these segments. After so many years, the end of it is why the Honda Civic is the best-selling automobile in Canada. Last year, the Japanese manufacturer delivered 43,556 units just for the Civic, and the new generation only came in at the end of the year. I am no crystal ball reader, but I can certainly tell you that Civic sales will be much higher in 2022, especially with the arrival of the SI and Type R versions.

We have to mention that the Toyota Corolla came very close to beating the Honda Civic in sales in Canada in 2021. Toyota managed to sell 40,019 units of the Corolla in 2021, just in Canada, which is only 3,500 units apart from what Honda did with the Civic. Of course, 3,500 units seem very far, but this gap isn't too comfortable for a car like the Honda Civic is usually way in front of everybody else. Like I mentioned in the previous paragraph, Civic sales will undoubtedly be up in 2022, and we know for sure that two rap doesn't have anything new on his sleeve for the Corolla this year. This means that Honda should theoretically dig a more significant gap between the Civic and the Corolla for 2022 sales. However, Toyota's popularity itself is growing fast. It was the most searched brand on the internet in 2021, and Toyota even managed to deliver more cars than Ford and GM in the United States in 2021.

I guess we'll have to be patient to see what will happen between the under civic in the Toyota Corolla in 2022. However, let me tell you that this is something we're going to watch very closely, and we're going to pay attention to every single monthly sales report.
