The 2008 crisis had a major impact on the market, particularly in the realm of pickup trucks. Back then, efficiency wasn't a well-understood concept, and trucks were all about ever more fuel-hungry V8 engines. Things have evolved significantly since then, and pickup trucks have gained considerable popularity. In fact, they've diversified with the introduction of several compact and even subcompact models.

Today, buyers have a wide range of choices in the pickup segment, catering to all kinds of applications. Some models are more versatile than others. However, the significant price increase of full-size models in recent years has allowed other categories of pickups to gain popularity. This all goes to show that the pickup truck market has never been as diverse as it is now, which is why I present to you my top 10 best pickup trucks in 2024.

10 — 2024 Hyundai Santa Cruz

I know, many will say that the Hyundai Santa Cruz doesn't belong here, but it is indeed a pickup truck. Granted, it doesn't have the same capabilities as its rivals, but the Santa Cruz can perfectly meet the needs of the majority of buyers, and that's what matters. I think we can commend the brand's boldness here.

9 — 2024 Honda Ridgeline

Honda has worked very hard to make the Ridgeline more appealing over the years. This model was once solely for brand enthusiasts. Today, it can attract the majority of pickup truck buyers, which makes it a very interesting model.

8 — 2024 Nissan Frontier

Nissan now offers only one truck, the Frontier. Fortunately, the Japanese manufacturer has always had some success in the segment, and the new Frontier has everything it takes to succeed. It is a competent, balanced, and very enjoyable truck to drive. It is also one of the most affordable models in its category.

7 — 2024 Ford Maverick

Some thought the engineers at Ford had a keen sense of humor when the brand announced plans to launch a compact pickup based on the Ford Escape platform. Needless to say, the manufacturer not only saw the right move but also created a need that people didn't realize they had. In my opinion, the Maverick could easily become the brand's second most popular model if they could increase production.

6 — 2024 Toyota Tacoma

Toyota is one of the brands with the best reputation, which explains the excellent resale value of a Tacoma. It is also one of the most reliable and durable pickups on the market. To be honest, I think the Tacoma's merits are somewhat overrated, but it remains an excellent truck nonetheless.

5 — 2024 GMC Canyon/Chevrolet Colorado

General Motors had fallen behind in the midsize pickup segment, but the American group has brilliantly caught up with the arrival of the new generation GMC Canyon and Chevrolet Colorado, which are more competent, modern, and technologically advanced than ever.

4 — 2024 Ford Ranger

When the Ranger arrived on the market a few years ago, it had already been available in other markets for some time. Thus, the product didn't seem particularly new or distinguished to us. However, the American manufacturer's truck has undergone a major transformation for 2024. Moreover, it is now available in a performance Raptor version.

3 — 2024 GMC Sierra/Chevrolet Silverado/HD

I am often asked which truck I prefer between the Chevrolet Silverado and the GMC Sierra. In fact, it depends on the version in question, but overall, I have a slight preference for the Sierra, which offers a more interesting finish. Both trucks are competent and offer a wide range of powertrains. Ultimately, it comes down to taste. However, if I had to choose just one version, the Silverado ZR2 would win without hesitation. It is the most beautiful truck currently available on the market.

2 — 2024 RAM 1500/RAM 1500 HD

The adventure ended for the RAM 1500 Classic this year, and the 2025 RAM 1500 enters the market as a new generation. That is why I recommend seriously considering the 2024 RAM 1500, as it is in its final year of production. Generally, this is the best year since all the minor production issues have been resolved. As for the truck itself, the RAM 1500 is by far the most comfortable model in its category. Its finish quality is particularly high in the top-end versions, and the attention to detail is very impressive. It is a truck that buyers love passionately, and its popularity continues to grow each year.

1 — 2024 Ford F-150/Super Duty

The Ford F-150 remains the undisputed champion here. Firstly, it doesn't need to split its identity like the RAM 1500/1500 Classic or the GMC Sierra/Chevrolet Silverado. The Ford F-150 also offers the greatest mechanical diversity in its category. You can opt for a 2.7-liter V6 that is truly fuel-efficient or go for total power with the 3.5-liter V6, now available in a hybrid form. Not to mention the incredible performance of the Raptor R. Ford was also the first manufacturer to offer an electric variant of its truck, giving it a significant edge over the competition. The Ford F-150 has been the best-selling vehicle in North America for years. This argument alone carries a lot of weight, but I assure you that this reputation is backed by a very competitive product. In short, if you're looking for a truck that can meet all your needs, there's a good chance you'll find everything you need with the F-150.
