What is Hyundai’s best-selling vehicle in Canada?
Hyundai went from being one of the sketchiest to one of the most appreciated and respected brands on the market. Today, the Korean manufacturer is associated with reliability, style, and performance. Ħyundai developed some of the most efficient electric cars in the recent history of the automobile industry. So, you won’t be surprised to learn that not only one but two Hyundai models made a spot for themselves on the prestigious Top 10 best-selling vehicles in Canada for 2022.
The Hyundai Elantra is one of the most popular compact sedans on the market, thanks to its mechanical diversity, aggressive styling, and modern tech. However, the Hyundai Kona managed to sell just a few more units in 2022, which makes it the most popular vehicle for the brand in Canada in 2022. 24 559 Elantra and 24 579 Kona were sold last year in the country. It was a close call for the Korean SUV, but still, a victory is a victory.
Why is it so popular?
Many reasons can explain Kona’s success, starting with the fact it is a hot vehicle in a hot segment. Nevertheless, being at the right place at the right moment isn’t sufficient here. Hyundai did a great job with the Kona design. It is bold and elegant. Even though it is a sub-compact SUV, the Kona shows good proportions. Some people think it is overstyled, but I think the Kona design is just right.
What makes the Kona a big player is its powertrain diversity. It is available with a regular 2.0-liter four-cylinder, like pretty much every car on the market, which is a good start. A fully electric version of the Kona offers a range of 415 km with a full charge. It is currently one of the best affordable EV SUVs you can get.
Things start to get interesting with the N-Line version, which brings more style and performance. This version is powered by a turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder making 195 hp and 195 lb-ft of torque. Finally, the Kona is one of the only sub-compact SUVs to offer a proper performance version with the Kona N. This one gets a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder making 276 hp and 289 lb-ft of torque. We are almost talking Civic Type R and Golf R level in a sub-compact SUV. If this isn’t enough to excite you, I don’t know what I can do.
Hyundai keeps getting more popular year after year, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see a third vehicle for the brand appear on the list of the Top 10 best-selling cars in Canada for 2023. In 2022, The Hyundai Elantra and the Hyundai Kona occupied the 10th and 9th positions. Don’t be surprised either if they go up some place in 2023.
