The current generation of the GMC Acadia has been on the market since 2016. Despite that, the model continues to perform well and win the hearts of new enthusiasts every year. It must be said that the recent addition of the AT4 version has brought a breath of fresh air to the American SUV lineup. Not to mention its Denali version, which adds a luxurious touch that can't be found anywhere else in its category.

In short, all this to say that GMC could afford to stretch it out a bit longer, but it seems that the American manufacturer has different plans. Indeed, what appears to be a heavily camouflaged GMC Acadia has recently been spotted on the road, suggesting that the model is inclined to undergo a major overhaul or at least a serious transformation. It is still too early to know if we're talking about a third generation, but rumors on the subject continue to intensify.

An Illusion

I was able to compare the spy photos and the photos of the current model side by side, and the first thing that stands out is that there isn't much difference between the two. This is what leads us to believe that it is probably an update rather than a complete redesign. However, there are indeed elements that differ between the two models, such as the exhaust tips, grille shape, and headlights.

However, and this is where it gets interesting, the model observed with heavy camouflage seems more imposing than the current model. It wouldn't be impossible for the Acadia to offer an even more spacious interior for its third generation.

A New Engine?

For now, there is no official information on the subject, but several rumors suggest that the American manufacturer's SUV could receive a new engine. In any case, the turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine is expected to continue as the base option with its 228 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. However, several sources mention that the 3.6-liter V6 could be replaced by a turbocharged 2.7-liter 4-cylinder engine. This is essentially the same engine found in the GMC Sierra. This engine has proven itself and is very effective for full-size trucks. Thus, it could help improve the performance of the Acadia.
