Tesla Cybertruck: Production has finally begun

21 July 2023 BY Jean-Sébastien Poudrier

It\'s time for celebration at Tesla as the first Cybertruck has just rolled out of the factory. The brand\'s founder took the opportunity to highlight the event on his Twitter account.

The model was initially launched in 2019. To be honest with you, we had almost lost hope of seeing the American manufacturer\'s electric truck on our roads one day. Despite the endless wait, Tesla has finally produced its first Cybertruck, and this is just the beginning. The first deliveries are expected to start by September.

Mass production

According to the brand\'s statements, the new Texas factory should be able to produce more than 350,000 trucks per year at its maximum capacity. Elon Musk is even projecting sales of 500,000 units per year for the model.

Currently, there is only one version available, which offers a range of 563 kilometers on a full charge. That\'s already quite good, but it falls short of the 1,000 kilometers announced in the past. However, the current model only features a configuration with two motors. Tesla had also announced other versions with three and four motors, which should be added to the model\'s lineup over time.

Competition

At the moment, the only other 100% electric trucks on the market are Ford\'s F-150 Lightning and GMC\'s Hummer EV. These models offer respective maximum ranges of 515 and 482 kilometers. Thus, we can say that the Tesla Cybertruck currently has a significant advantage over its rivals. However, Chevrolet has announced a range of 724 kilometers for its upcoming Silverado EV. In my opinion, this is where the other versions of the Cybertruck with higher autonomy will come into play.

As for the price, it is still unknown. In 2019, Elon Musk had announced that the Cybertruck would be sold starting from $39,999 US dollars. Although ambitious, it seemed realistic at the time. However, it is estimated that this figure has been significantly revised upwards due to the Covid-19 crisis and material shortages. Nonetheless, Tesla may still surprise us. We will know more when the model hits the market in the coming months. You can already reserve your unit now with a deposit of only $150.
